War was immune to the powers of the Chthonians and the Greek pantheon. Since they couldn't kill him and the other Machae, they froze him and locked him in Tartarus. At the beginning of One Silent Night, Stryker revived him in exchange for killing Acheron and Nick.
When War attempted to kill Acheron, Savitar and twenty Charonte demons fought him off. Nick's Malachai powers were unleashed when War attempted to kill him.
